Group Project: In Class

The date was April 10 and when we first got into class the Dr. Charles talked about the the Group Projects he told everyone to be confident and just relax and make sure that we where note reading the notes but talking about it. After the Proffers gave his emotional speech it was the students turn to teach the class. The First group that was up was the Social Justice group and they began talking about how Social Justice is defined is to egalition society based on the principles of equality and solidarity that understands the values human rights and that recognizes the dignity of ever human being there are four main principles of Social Justice which are 1) equal Citizenship 2) Entitment to social minimum 3) Equality of opportunity  and 4) Fair Distribution.The second group came up and they talked about how LGBT get descrimated and how it effects teens to depression and suicide. The final group that went up was the Human traffickers and one thing that was really shocking to me was that Human trafficking is not just sex slaves but also servant slaves and also war children. And I was really glad and that I took this class and because I think in any sociology I would not be able to learn more about society then jsut reading the book and thats why I was luck to have Dr. Charles as my proffsers.

In class

In class on March 22 2012 it was my first time I came back to class since are out side project. And what we talked about first was the conflict model which we described understanding of Stratification which is how society has been divide social groups. One of the sociologist who try to explain this understanding of Stratification was Weber he described Multidimensional Weberian Perspective how people use SES which is the Social Economic Status what Weber did is he  explained that Wealth, Status ,Prestige, Propositions where the factors of understanding Stratification. The reason why wealth is such big way of describing the social group is because wealth can be measured in land and inheritance what people have so the more stuff people have the more they have status. Which ties into Status also know as ranking such as if for example if my dad was Governor he my family would have high power because even though we don’t have a lot of money we do have a lot of power. Prestige is described as respect that is given to people and finally Propositions is no single characteristic like class can define a persons position.

Priacy and the Marx and Engels

There is a conflict in Amercia which is the The online pricay act in which compines who are the Bourgereses trying to pass this bill so the proletarit can not take or get free movies video songs on the intrenet because thats money being taken away from the Bourgereses now there is in state of conesent struggle of conflict between the Borugereses and the Proletariats. What the Proletariats try to do to stop this law makers or Bourgereses from passing this bill was protest and delay it, the reason why did this was because Proletarits feel that this bill will effect peoples pricay on the computer. This is also Debunking because what the Proletariats or the Grassroots movments are trying to do Debunking and Soical Marginality because the Proletariats are trying to challenge what the goverment or the Bourgereses are trying to passing.

Sociological Imagination

HIstory my family was orginally from India where they were hard working  farmers and field works  unfourtunetly my family were very poor and the Indian at that time was very courrupt so the richer got richer and the poor got poorer, but that all changed when Pierre Trudeau introducted the Immgrantion bill in which my parents where allowed to come to Canada. The Soical Sturcture was my parents where working class immgrantion family that had to do labour jobs just have a decenst life for me and my brother. My Biogrhapy is that I am Indo Candian who has discovered that mentalite of hard worker that was created by my parents and I am also a very pro Liberal and I try to have a better life that my parents dreamed of me having.

My History is that my family had all ways respected the Army in India and in Canada for there work and ideas and Canadian Army is know for helping underdeveolped Countrys. My Biorgrahpy since my family always had respect for the Candian Army I have always donated money to them to keep are counrty safe  and also help other counrtys develop. The Soical Strucutre is that the Candians have donatieed money to the Army help the Candian Army in purchusing weapons or equtment to help and assisted people of Liyba to fight and free Liyba so my money or my donation helped Canada to free Liyba.

Body Ritual Among the NACIREMA

This article  it talks about idea how culture can have any type of style and rituals. The culture that Profeser Linton was talking about was Nacirema also he explained that “this culture is very poorly understood” that there are a “North Amercian group living in the territory” Miner (1956, p.1). It was also stated that the Nacirema had a very “developed market economy” Miner (1956, p.1). But the real fundanmental belif the NACIREMA have  is that the “human body is ugly and the tendence is to debility and dsease” Miner (1956,p.1). Some the ritual and cermony that NACIREMA have is they first every household has a shrines in which they care magical medcines they also have holy water that they us from the communtiy Miner (1956,p.1) The NACIREMA also have a Holy Mouth Men in which they try to discover the mouth and the prblems that they might have, NACIREMA also have a temple in which they try to treat the sick people in there culture the temple is called latipso. Also there is a witchdoctor who trys to solve the problems of devils that are loged in the heads of people. There are many rituals in this culture that can turn fat people skin also make women have bigger breast and finally women hide there pregnancy. The Assumptions is that all the things that  this socitey has is granted in the tradtions saying that ”human Body is ugly and the tendency is debility and disease” Miner (1956,p.1)  The country that the article is hinting is Amercia because NACIEMA is Amercia backwards article gave the location of Amercia saying it was near Candian Creel and Mexico, and  also the names such as witchdocter is know as a Psychoglist, shrines actually means washroom also Holy mouth means Denist, and latipso mean hostpial. Idea of this article was to show American culture and socitey  in a different prospective by making more foreign and excotic writting the purpose was to show the reader what Amercian Society is because once again we can not see or touch feel how the soceity is we can only write and intreprite what it real is. If Amercian people jugde other peoples soicety saying its wired or different this gives the Amercian people a taste of there own medicane because it show how forgein people my think about Amercian society in differnt prespective. Also the Soical Imgantion is when History is when the Amercians follow there ideas and opinions about how the Human Body is ugly, starts to create a biography of person in Amercia would try to be skin or fit in what soicety wants them to be. Soical Structure is that Soicety in Amercia begins  to labal and treat people differently dew to there body types.

Introduction about me

Hello my name is Inderpal Brar  I am currently a student at  Kwantlen Polytechnic University  this is my first year of University, the reason why I am going to Kwantlen is because want  achieve my goal of getting a degree or associates degree in Criminology by having either my degree or my associate degree in Criminology I will be one step closer to my dream of becoming a lawyer for the Crown prosecution. I was born in Surrey, BC when I was grade 2 I was labeled with learning disability and during high school started  having an interest for Social Sciences and law.  There many reasons why took Sociology the first reason is  its part of requirements. Second is I always had two question that have never been answered the first is  why do people have different ideas about a society and also how do get those ideas. The final question is how can we make society perfect. Hoping this courses can answer these questions. The third reasons why I wanted to take this courses is never took Sociology course or course  talked  about society and my current understanding of this Sociology is that we as individuals are apart of society and we have created society also where the ones to change it. The final reason why I wanted to take this course was because I heard this class does not only read about Sociology but we talk about it as group or as team get better knowledge not just as  students but as also as Humans.
